The Mary Webb Society

We are pleased to report that the commemorative plaque commissioned by the society in honour of founder chairman, the late Dennis Pursell, has now been fixed to the outside wall of The Bog visitor centre. The plaque was originally erected in 1992 along with a series of other interpretative panels on the walls of the remains of old mine buildings at The Bog, Stiperstones. The panels were replaced some years later and the Mary Webb panel remained in storage.

It was decided that The Bog Centre would be the perfect new home. With thanks to Noel Evans for supporting the idea and to Jim Stamps for fitting it to the wall. It looks lovely.

The Bog visitor centre, Stiperstones SY5 0NG is sited in a Victorian school building which is one of the few remaining buildings of a lost lead and barytes mining village. Open daily for teas, crafts, information and more 28th March  -4th November 2018. It is a welcome stopover when walking in this dramatic landscape in the heart of Mary Webb country.
