What a glorious weekend at the Shrewsbury Steam Fair. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere was buzzing. A great family show, and what an opportunity to showcase Mary Webb to a wider audience and another chance to ride around the main arena in a traction engine trailer courtesy of the Goddard family.
On sunday the Red Arrows did a fly past right over our tent, pretty spectacular. Thanks to all those who stopped for a chat, bought books and shared their own memories of the filming of Gone to Earth. It was the highlight of the weekend to have people point out relatives on our display or find their names in the list of extras. A big thank you to Richard from Flix in the Stix who painstakingly slowed the film frame by frame so that one lady could see herself as a child dancing around the maypole and another lady identified her father in St John’s ambulance uniform. I hope those who took leaflets and bought books will feel inspired to join the society. You will be very welcome. Thanks again to County of Salop Steam Engine Society for their generosity in giving us this opportunity to promote Mary Webb and the society in this special centenary year.
